About
Darko Varga has been performing since the age of eight. As a pianist he performed in Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Serbia, Ukraine, and USA. His teachers include Maria Szekely, Ninoslav Zivkovic, Dr. Edward Turgeon, Dr. Heather Coltman and Michael Gurt. Additionally, he participated in masterclasses and worked with prominent musicians such as: Jovanka Banjac, Nador Gyorgy, Rita Kinka, Ayako Tsuruta, Peter Miyamoto, Wei-Yi Yang, Eugen Indjic, Eric Heidsieck, Jean Francois Antonioli, Ann-Louise Turgeon, Joseph Gurt, Jonathan Biss, Kevin Chance, John Owings, Clelia Iruzun, Vadim Gluzman, Herbert Greenberg and others.
Varga won top prizes at many national and international piano competitions such as: World Melodia Music Award (Online, August 2024), Carles and Sofia Piano Competition (Spain), Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artist Competition (US), Isidor Bajic Piano Memorial (Serbia), EPTA Osijek (Croatia) “Usti nad Labem” and “Czerny” (Czech Republic), EPTA (Belgium), Petar Konjovic (Serbia) and others. He performed at the International Prokofiev Symposium in Baton Rouge, and as a soloist at the LSU Gala concert. He performed with Suboticka Filharmonija, Vojvodjanski Simfonicari, Virtuosi di Praha, FAU Symphony Orchestra, and Monroe symphony orchestra.
Varga is an avid chamber musician participating in various chamber ensembles. He has performed with opera singers Birgit Fioravante, Sandra Moon, Nick Brownlee, Dr. Andre Chiang, Dean Peterson, violinist Gareth Johnson, and saxophonists Taiki Azuma and Kyle Mechmet.
Varga received bachelor’s degree from Faculty of Music in Belgrade, Serbia (2010), a master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University (2014), and a doctorate in piano performance from Louisiana State University (2018). Currently, Varga is hired as an accompanist at FAU, at St John Fisher Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, and maintains a private piano studio in South Florida.
